Evernote is one of the oldest and most recognizable note-taking apps. It lets you capture text, images, web clips, and audio notes, organize them into notebooks, and search across everything. It defined the digital note-taking category before Notion and Obsidian existed.
What Is Evernote?
Launched in 2008, Evernote became the default note app for millions of professionals. Its signature feature was the web clipper and OCR search, which let you find text inside images and PDFs. It runs on every platform and integrates with calendars, tasks, and email.
Key Features
- Web clipper: Save full articles and pages into Evernote with one click.
- OCR search: Find text inside scanned documents and handwritten notes.
- Notebooks and tags: Organize notes in a traditional folder and tag system.
- Document scanning: Use your phone camera to scan and digitize paper notes.
- Calendar integration: Link notes to meetings and tasks.
Pricing
Evernote has a free plan with limited devices. Personal costs $14.99 per month. Professional is $17.99 per month. Business is $17 per user per month.
Pros and Cons
Privalumai: Excellent web clipper, great OCR, polished interface, works everywhere, mature integration ecosystem.
Trūkumai: Expensive, free plan is very limited, sync limits are strict, fewer features than Notion, data is locked in a proprietary format.
Who Should Use It?
Evernote is best for long-time users who are already invested in their notebook structure. For new users, Notion offers more flexibility at a lower price, and Obsidian offers data ownership. Evernote still wins for web clipping and OCR search.
